The BoxBrownie alternative for agents who list every week

BoxBrownie charges $24 per virtually staged image, $32 for standard 3D staging, and bundles climb to $176 — all billed per room with a 24-48 hour human-editor queue and revisions sent back through the same queue. Plotpane replaces that per-room math with a flat $39-$199/month subscription that delivers unlimited renders (within your credit pool), 4K output on every plan, ~90-second turnaround, and zero watermarks. If you list every week, the switch pays for itself on your first Friday flip.

BoxBrownie vs Plotpane: cost, turnaround, output, compliance

BoxBrownie's virtual staging is $24 per image billed per room, with 3D renders at $32 and virtual renovation bundles $24-$176 depending on scope. A four-listing month at eight stageable rooms each is $768-$1,024 in BoxBrownie fees, before rush surcharges or revision waits. Plotpane's Pro plan is $79/month flat for 300 renders — that same agent has 64 renders' worth of work against a 300-render ceiling, with 236 credits left over for dusk, sky swap, decluttering and enhancement. Turnaround: BoxBrownie ships in 24-48 hours (human editor queue); Plotpane ships in roughly 90 seconds at 4K. Output: BoxBrownie standard delivery is 1920x1080; Plotpane is 4K on every plan. Compliance: Plotpane embeds XMP AI-disclosure metadata by default; BoxBrownie leaves disclosure to the listing agent.

02

When BoxBrownie still wins vs when Plotpane wins

BoxBrownie wins when you have a single hero image on a $3M listing and want a specific human retoucher to manually place a specific mid-century credenza against a specific bay window — the kind of art-direction job where a 24-hour revision loop is a feature, not a bug. BoxBrownie's human editors still have the edge on heavily irregular geometry (attic knee walls, galley kitchens with ceiling drops) and on brand-specific custom furniture requests. Plotpane wins on everything else: volume flips, multi-listing Fridays, pre-listing preview for sellers, MLS-deadline turnarounds, and any workflow where the per-room math stops making sense. If you list more than two homes a month, or shoot more than 16 rooms, the flat subscription beats per-image pricing on month one and the gap widens from there.

Migrating from BoxBrownie to Plotpane in a weekend

Export your last ten BoxBrownie orders as reference — the staged outputs, not the originals. Import them into Plotpane as style references when building presets: Plotpane reads aesthetic intent (mid-century modern, coastal, Scandi, transitional, warm contemporary) and recreates the look across your catalog. Rebuild your three most-used BoxBrownie styles as Plotpane presets once, then apply them batch-wise across every future listing. For agents with standing BoxBrownie renovation orders, keep one month of overlap — run Plotpane on new listings while BoxBrownie finishes in-flight orders, compare side-by-side on three closed listings, then cancel BoxBrownie once you've validated the output. Bring your photographer's raw JPEGs (Plotpane accepts any standard format up to 4K source); skip BoxBrownie's upload portal. No contracts, no per-seat fees, no minimum commitment, cancel any billing cycle with one click from your dashboard.

Local questions, answered

Is BoxBrownie worth it in 2026?+

For single-hero art-direction jobs on luxury listings where a human retoucher's eye matters more than turnaround, yes. For any agent listing more than two homes a month, the per-room math stops working: $24 per image at 20+ rooms/month is $480+, versus Plotpane's $79/month Pro plan covering 300 renders flat.

What's cheaper than BoxBrownie for virtual staging?+

Plotpane at $39-$199/month flat is structurally cheaper than BoxBrownie's per-image model once you cross ~4 rooms a month. Pro plan ($79) covers 300 renders including dusk, sky swap, decluttering and enhancement — BoxBrownie charges separately for each.

How does Plotpane compare to BoxBrownie on quality?+

For standard rectangular rooms — roughly 90% of residential listings — Plotpane's 4K output is editorially at parity with BoxBrownie's human editors and ships in 90 seconds instead of 24-48 hours. BoxBrownie retains an edge on heavily irregular rooms and bespoke custom-furniture requests.

Pricing FAQ

Billing, quotas, and refunds.

  • Yes — one click in the Stripe billing portal from your dashboard. Billing stops immediately and any remaining credits stay usable through the end of the billing period.

  • Starter and Pro renders refresh at the start of each billing cycle and do not roll over. Agency renders roll over up to 3× your monthly cap, so a slow month isn't wasted.

  • We never auto-charge for overages. Once you hit your cap, new renders pause until your next cycle. If you need more room immediately, upgrade your plan from the billing page and your new quota applies instantly with proration.

  • No free trial. Instead, every plan carries a 14-day no-questions refund — if your first render isn't MLS-ready, we refund it. We chose a hard paywall over a throttled free tier so every plan gets full 4K output and every tool from day one.

  • Yes — annual billing is roughly 20% off the monthly rate (Starter $39 vs $49, Pro $79 vs $99, Agency $199 vs $249, all per month). The toggle above swaps the two.

Questions

The usual questions,
answered directly.

  • No. Midjourney and DALL-E invent scenes from text prompts — beautiful for art, disqualifying for a listing. Plotpane is a structure-preserving pipeline: your room geometry, windows, and floor plan stay exact. We stage, re-light, swap skies, declutter, and 4K-enhance your actual photo. No hallucinated architecture, no invented rooms.

  • BoxBrownie and Styldod are human-edit services: you upload, a retoucher works overnight, you get a result in 24–48 hours at $2–$32 per image per treatment. Plotpane runs the full listing pipeline — staging, dusk, sky, clutter, enhancement — in one upload, in ~90 seconds, for a flat monthly subscription. Same 4K quality, no queue, no per-image fees.

  • Yes, when disclosed. NAR guidelines, California AB 723, and REBNY Rule 3.3 all allow virtually staged photos provided the listing discloses them. Every Plotpane export embeds invisible XMP disclosure metadata so the staging record travels with the file. You still handle the listing-remarks disclosure in your MLS portal — that's the part only you can do.

  • Not on staging or enhancement — our Fidelity Contract enforces structure-preserving masks that lock architecture, windows, and floor plan before any generation runs. Furniture is added to empty rooms; clutter is removed from furnished rooms; lighting and sky are re-graded. Renovation features (new flooring, wall colors) require you to explicitly mark the surface. We never reinvent what's already there.

  • Yes — one click in the Stripe billing portal from your dashboard. Billing stops immediately, remaining credits stay usable through the end of the billing period, and there's no cancellation fee.

  • Yes — any AI-generated or AI-modified image is considered an edit requiring disclosure under NAR's standards. That's why every Plotpane export writes invisible XMP disclosure metadata by default. The flag is machine-readable by MLS tooling and survives Lightroom round-trips. You still add the disclosure line to your listing remarks; we make sure the image itself is self-describing.

  • We don't train on your uploads — ever, with no opt-out toggle needed. Storage is per-account R2 (Cloudflare's object store), isolated from other tenants. When you cancel, your account's files are deleted on schedule. Transit is TLS 1.3, at-rest is AES-256. Full details in /legal/privacy.

  • Yes. Upload HEIC straight from your phone or desktop — we validate by magic bytes (not just file extension) and convert server-side. PNG, JPG, WebP, and HEIC are all first-class inputs. Output is 4K JPG by default, or request PNG if you need lossless.

  • Upgrade is instant and prorated: Stripe credits the unused portion of your current plan against the new one, and your new render quota applies immediately. Downgrades take effect at the next billing cycle so you keep your current quota until then. No credits are lost in either direction.

  • Yes. All plans include a commercial-use license for the agent, brokerage, or photography business on the account. Agency plan adds 5 team seats and a white-label delivery ZIP so you can hand enhanced photos to clients under your own studio brand. Full licensing terms in /legal/terms.
